Psalm 58

Some Psalms are over the top - worse than Psalm 137 if you can believe it. Here is a rough cut translation of psalm 58. It is one of the 3 Do-not-destroy psalms and one of 6 miktamim (enscription perhaps). I expect do-not-destroy was written - yes written - on some autographed manuscript for its own protection since one's first impulse is to compost it. (But say you, Christian, whether you cannot find some redemption in the blood - surely the inscription do-not-destroy is intriguing.)

For the Leader, Do not destroy
of David, An Inscription

Truly the mute speak righteousness
With equity, you judge the children of dust
"Indeed, by heart you plan injustice
the violence of your hands you treasure."

Estranged are the wicked from the womb
they err from the belly speaking a lie
their venom in the spirit of the snake's venom
as a deaf cobra stops his ear
and does not listen to the voice of the conjurer
charming charms with wisdom.

O God, bash their teeth in their mouths
the fangs on the young cubs destroy
refuse them as their waste water
(he will aim his darts as when they were circumcised)

As a slug melting along his path,
a woman's miscarriage,
let them not see the sun
before briers see thorns as life
as burning let them be swept away.

The righteous will rejoice when he sees vengeance
his feet he will wash in the blood of the wicked
and the human will say
"surely there is fruit for the righteous,
surely there is a God judging in the earth."
